Eleanor arrived at SMRS because she was thrown out of a car and dragged. She was was injured and much of her tummy skin was rubbed off. The shelter picked her up and asked if we could get her the medical attention she needed. She did have owners, but they did not want her back. We were happy to help and now she is looking for her forever home.

Eleanor has demonstrated during her time in foster care that she would be happiest as the sole ruler of all she surveys. She is very reactive to other animals (dogs, cats, birds, etc). She would not be a good candidate for dog parks or neighborhood walks.

Personality-wise, Eleanor, in the words of her foster mom, “sweet, sweet, sweet.” She is a great lover of the outdoors and loves to feel the grass under her paws, whether during playtime in a fenced yard or a walk to the park. Fetch is another favorite pastime, as is snuggling at the feet of her people with a nice antler to chew. And if she can make her way onto a warm lap, well, all the better!

Eleanor is housebroken and travels well in a car. Of course she’d be happiest to have the undivided attention of a stay-at-home companion, but she could also adjust to a family who was away during the day, so long as she gets a midday walk and potty break. Eleanor would also be a good take-to-the office dog, as she will spend hours snoozing at your feet, but only if there are no other dogs to steal her spotlight—a situation where other dogs came and went on a regular basis would be terribly stressful for her as she is reactive.

If you would like to become the faithful companion to Eleanor, please fill out an application and tell us why you’d make the perfect match.  A home with other dogs could be considered, but only if the home has extensive experience working with reactive dogs and devotes the time and energy needed for slow introductions. Be sure to tell us about your experience managing reactive dogs in your application, if you already have a dog.

Her new family must be willing and able to drive and pick her up. SMRS does not ship dogs and adopters are expected to pick up their dogs from their foster family.

SMRS does not have a facility location. Our dogs are in foster care in people's private homes. For the foster families' safety, we do not disclose specific locations, and we don't set up meet and greets prior to applications. For detailed information about the dogs in our care, please read the bios on each dogs webpage.
