My name is Maggie!  I was the property of a backyard breeder who never even bothered to give me a name or care for my medical needs.  SMRS stepped up to take me in and provide me with the medical care I needed.  I lost my eye due to severe neglect, but don't you worry as it doesn't bother me a bit and I feel like a new girl.  I was spayed and received all my vaccinations and am heartworm negative. I came to rescue with a rectal prolapse (surgically repaired) and issues defecating. I saw the specialist and had some procedures done (see below). I am now ready to search for my forever home where I will be loved and cherished.

Here is a bit about me...I am an Alpha female who will yield to a male dog with a strong personality, but I do request a home with no cats.  I am crate trained, I love my crate as I have spent many hours in a kennel in my previous life and feel safe. I continue to make strides in my potty training and I have learned to follow the other dog in my foster home as he has impeccable house manners.  I do love all the neighborhood kids that I meet during my daily walks, but I don't think I would enjoy those wobbly toddlers.  My days are spent collecting squeaky toys, balls or chewy bones which I take directly to my kennel.  Everyone believes I think they are my babies, but the truth is I just love toys!  I enjoys daily walks, but I would not mind living in a home with a fenced yard so I could run and play.  I would be fine in an apartment as long as I have ample leash walks during the day.

I do have Irritable Bowel Disease which is currently managed with special food and medication.  I had to see the specialist for an issue called rectal stricture. This means there was a band of scar tissue in my rectum causing me potty issues. I had a colonoscopy where they took biopsies to determine what was causing my issues. That is how I was diagnosed with IBD and started my current treatments. I also had a balloonplasty procedure to stretch the stricture so I could potty better. The vet says it worked well and I currently do not need another one, but could possibly in the future. I have taken a long course of steroids to help the inflammation from the IBD and it has helped a lot. The vet thinks it can be managed going forward with my special diet, but if I have a flare up would need medications again.

My foster Mom says I am currently doing great!  I have also mastered "Come" when I am called and you may add to my training as I am willing to learn and happy to please you. If you are looking for your best friend, please don't look any further.  Send in my adoption application today and we can make beautiful music together.
