Chester was surrendered by a family for having some behavioral issues toward the mother in law in his home. He snapped many times at her, but never broke the skin. He is healthy and up to date on his veterinary care.
Chester is house broken and loves plush toys, and is an excellent napper. He is not, however, the dog for a novice. He is a delight to walk -- as long as he doesn't see any strange dogs or other animals. Chester lives with other foster dogs and and does well, but he needs a firm leader. He would do best as an only dog unless his new owner has the patience and experience to conduct very slow introductions.
Chester has strong opinions and does not hesitate to share them. He has resorted to using his teeth to prevent people from taking his toys, putting him in a crate or attempting to force him to do something he doesn't want to do. Please be ready to describe your experience with dominant dogs, and please do not apply if you have children in the home. Chester should also not live with cats or other small creatures. Chester has extreme crate anxiety and will bark, drool and throw a fit in a crate. He would do best with someone home all day or who can take him to work. Because he is not a particularly active dog, Chester is well suited for apartment life. He does, however, enjoy the outdoors, so a fenced yard is preferred.
Foster Mom says, "He is super cuddly, and like most Frenchies he just wants to be near you 24/7, but he will need an owner who is willing to lay down the law and set boundaries for him. He's done great with house training and seems to catch on to basic commands pretty quickly. Little man is pretty low energy but it's not hard to get him doing zoomies for a toy! Chester is very much a people pleaser and gets attached very quickly!"
If you are interested in a challenging but, let's face it, downright interesting dog, we encourage you to consider Chester.
